During Tuesday's episode of BBC Breakfast, presenters Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent faced an unexpected disruption as a live segment turned chaotic. The incident occurred when BBC correspondent Andy Verity was reporting on location ahead of the Post Office public inquiry.
As Ben handed over to Andy, asking what to expect from the day's proceedings, the broadcast was interrupted by background activity. Another news crew inadvertently entered the shot, with a cameraman and a woman quickly moving out of frame upon realising they were on air. A car horn and beeping sounds were also audible, seemingly from a nearby crossing.
The chaos escalated when a young child, part of a family group including a man and two other children, fell off a scooter behind Andy. The woman from the other crew was heard saying 'Oh dear' before helping the child up. The father rushed over to comfort the crying child, while pedestrians continued to cross behind the correspondent.
Throughout the disruption, Andy remained composed, delivering his report on the inquiry's expected findings regarding compensation. As the segment concluded, Ben apologised for the audio issues, stating: 'Andy, for now, thanks very much. Apologise for some of the audio quality there but, continued coverage of those findings as we get them.'
