Noodle Recall at Whole Foods and Thrive Market Over Peanut Allergy Risk
Noodle Recall Over Peanut Allergy Risk at Whole Foods

Noodle packages sold nationwide at Whole Foods, Thrive Market, and online have been recalled due to concerns that the products may cause life-threatening allergic reactions in individuals with peanut allergies. Fly By Jing announced on Tuesday that it is recalling its Creamy Sesame Noodles because the products may have been exposed to cross-contact with peanuts during manufacturing.

Details of the Recall

Although peanuts are not listed as an ingredient in the Creamy Sesame Noodles, the company discovered that a third-party manufacturer produced the items on equipment that also processes peanuts. This cross-contact poses a serious risk to consumers with peanut allergies.

The recalled noodles were sold in single packs and four-packs at Whole Foods, the online membership-based retailer Thrive Market, and directly on Fly By Jing's website. The affected products have best-by dates of October 15, 2026, December 6, 2026, and March 23, 2027, and were sold from February 1 to May 8, 2026.

Health Risks and Regulatory Context

Peanuts are among the top nine food allergens in the United States. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), food allergies and hypersensitivities affect millions of Americans. Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms like hives or lip swelling to severe, life-threatening responses, including respiratory failure and shock.

Fly By Jing has halted distribution of the affected noodles and notified customers and retailers about the recall. The company has placed its remaining inventory on hold and stated that it has strengthened allergen-control procedures with the third-party manufacturer to prevent future incidents.

Company Response and Consumer Advice

The Independent has reached out to Fly By Jing for additional comments. In the meantime, consumers who have purchased the recalled Creamy Sesame Noodles are urged to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.

This recall follows a recent public health alert issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service regarding Giovanni Rana ravioli. The "Rustic Beef Sauce & Creamy Burrata Cheese Ravioli" was found to potentially contain shrimp filling in lobster sauce, posing a risk to individuals with shellfish allergies.
