Lucy Davis, known for playing Dawn Tinsley in the original UK version of The Office, has announced she has “incurable” breast cancer. The 53-year-old actress, daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, shared the news in an emotional Instagram post, revealing the disease has metastasised to her bones, including her spine, right hip and ribs.
Davis, who starred in the sitcom from 2001 to 2003, said she was diagnosed a year and a half ago and that it is now “too late” for chemotherapy. In the post, she also referenced her beloved late dog Gracie, who died in 2024, saying she will be reunited with her pet “sooner than expected.”
Heartbreaking Instagram Update
In the caption, Davis wrote: “I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it. I’ll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home. Any and all grieving is for my family; it’s far harder for them than for me.”
The actress had previously penned a lengthy tribute to Gracie at the time of her death. Alongside a montage of photos, she wrote: “On Friday I had to say goodbye to the best being there is. She was nearly 17.”
Tribute to Her Beloved Dog
“Because of Gracie I learned what this feeling of unconditional love is. And now I need to somehow deal with the loss of her in my life,” she continued. “I don’t really know where to start in telling who she was, she gave me everything and asked for nothing. I learned so much from her.”
Davis added: “For her whole life I always knew where she was at any given minute, and now I don’t. That’s one of the hardest parts for me. She was kind, generous, wilful, funny, fabulously disobedient, very vocal, and so loving. She was my travel buddy, my playmate, my partner in crime, my love. God I was lucky. Thank you my girl. Fly free. Until we meet again.”
