James May has given a three-word update on Jeremy Clarkson's health, saying his former co-star is "over the hurdle" following his cancer diagnosis.
Health Update on 'The One Show'
Appearing on The One Show with Matt Allwright for a "pubs special," May was asked about Clarkson, his friend, colleague, and fellow pub owner. When asked how Clarkson was getting on with his health, May replied: "Oh, he's fine, as far as I can tell. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, and I think he's over the hurdle."
Clarkson's Cancer Diagnosis and Remission
Clarkson, 66, revealed in series five of Clarkson's Farm that he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025. The cancer was caught early and treated successfully. After an operation to remove part of his prostate, he is now in remission.
Clarkson confirmed to the Sunday Times that follow-up tests in April showed no sign of cancer. "I am without a doubt, officially, the world's luckiest man," he told the paper. "It was an aggressive type of cancer. It could have spread, it could have gone into the pancreas, it could have gone anywhere, and that would have been trouble."
Ongoing Monitoring and Advocacy
Clarkson is now having regular blood tests and acknowledged a 40% chance of recurrence. "I try to be positive. I've decided to be one of the 60% who doesn't have a recurrence," he said.
His diagnosis came after a routine check in May 2025. He has urged fans to get checked, saying: "It's not uncomfortable, it's not undignified. And it's a no-brainer. I did, and that's why I'm sitting here talking to you 11 months down the line."
Before his cancer diagnosis, Clarkson underwent a heart procedure in October 2024, having two stents fitted to prevent a potentially fatal heart attack.
