McFly drummer Harry Judd has revealed his secret struggle with anxiety and dependency on cannabis, which began shortly after he joined the band at age 17. In an interview on This Morning, the 33-year-old admitted he became 'hooked on weed' and quickly escalated to stronger forms of marijuana, smoking 'every night'.
Judd described how his anxiety developed at 19, even as the band topped the charts. He said he initially felt unable to cope with the pressures of fame, but eventually found relief through exercise. 'It was the exercise that helped. I soon realised there were so many benefits to exercise,' he explained.
The Strictly Come Dancing winner also spoke about his decision to quit drugs and alcohol, and how fitness became a key part of managing his mental health. He has now written a book, 'Get Fit Get Happy', to share his transformation journey. He hopes to inspire others who struggle with anxiety and depression to consider exercise as a coping mechanism.
Judd is now happily married to classical musician Izzy Johnston, with whom he has a daughter, Lola, and a son, Kit. He said fatherhood has given him added motivation to keep his anxiety under control.
