Good Morning Britain hosts Ranvir Singh and Richard Madeley sent their support to The Office actress Lucy Davis during Wednesday's programme, after she announced she has incurable cancer.
Lucy Davis reveals cancer diagnosis
On Tuesday (August 11), the 53-year-old star told her Instagram followers she is "trying to live out whatever might be left of my life". She wrote: "A year and a half ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, which has metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs. The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo."
During the show, Ranvir said: "The lovely Lucy Davis from The Office... It's a terrible shock. She's got incurable secondary breast cancer, it's spread throughout her body. She's only 53."
Hosts praise Davis's attitude
Ranvir remembered Lucy's role in the "amazing" British sitcom and noted that the actress' statement would help others check their own bodies. She reflected on the "important" message Lucy was giving her fans, adding: "Her attitude though, remarkable." She concluded: "It's important, isn't it, when people bravely come out and talk about it, [like] Sir Chris Hoy. It is important. We sit up and listen."
Davis vows to keep working
Lucy, best known for playing Dawn Tinsley in Ricky Gervais' BBC sitcom, added in her statement: "As of now, I'm trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can. I always like to find the teachable moments in anything negative that happens. And cancer has not disappointed in that regard; there's a lot I have learned from it, and I'm grateful for that."
The actress concluded: "I'm still going to keep up all my work for animal rights. It's so important to me. And I still would like to keep working. I'm perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life. For those of you on a similar journey to mine, I do wish you well. Cancer asks a lot from us, physically and mentally. And we all get to do it however we choose. Much love to you all."
