ITV's beloved Good Morning Britain medic Dr Hilary Jones has shared a harrowing health scare that left him unable to speak – a terrifying ordeal for the nation's favourite TV doctor.
The 70-year-old health expert revealed he was struck down by a severe case of laryngitis so intense that his voice completely disappeared during a critical work commitment.
The Moment His Voice Failed
"I literally couldn't speak a word," Dr Hilary confessed about the alarming incident that occurred while recording an important voiceover. "There I was in the recording studio, and nothing would come out – it was incredibly frustrating and quite frightening."
Emergency Measures
The GMB star described taking drastic action to recover his voice in time for his regular television appearance:
- Complete vocal rest for 48 hours
- Steam inhalation treatments
- Religious honey and lemon consumption
- Avoiding all whispering (which strains vocal cords further)
A Warning to Viewers
Never one to miss an educational opportunity, Dr Hilary used his personal experience to warn viewers about vocal health:
"The vocal cords are incredibly delicate structures. When they become inflamed through overuse or infection, the results can be devastating – especially for professionals who rely on their voice."
The Road to Recovery
Thankfully, after intensive care and rest, Dr Hilary's voice returned in time for his next Good Morning Britain appearance, much to the relief of his colleagues and fans.
The popular doctor concluded with characteristic humour: "I've always said prevention is better than cure – perhaps I should have listened to my own advice!"
