Cody Simpson's Vocal Cord Injury: Surgery 'Looking Likely' Despite Healing
Cody Simpson's Vocal Cord Injury: Surgery Likely

Aussie singer Cody Simpson, 29, has provided fans with an update on his health following a serious haemorrhage on his vocal cords. Taking to his Instagram Story on Tuesday, he revealed that while he is on the mend, he is not yet out of the woods.

Doctor's Visit and Update

Simpson shared a clip of himself wearing a face mask while sitting in a doctor's office. As he awaited news from medical professionals, he flashed a 'fingers crossed' gesture to the camera, signalling his anxiety. In a subsequent slide, he disclosed that although his condition was improving, surgery was 'looking likely'.

'Okay. She's healed a lot but needs more time,' he wrote. 'The haemorrhage is gone but there's a big damaged blood vessel on the underside of my right vocal cord.'

Complete Silence Prescribed

The singer explained that doctors have ordered 'complete silence' for a week, after which they will evaluate whether surgery is necessary. 'We are doing another week of complete silence and praying for a miracle heal. Send me your love,' he wrote. 'We will then make a decision on surgery which is a longer recovery process BUT also reduces the risk of further complications.'

He continued: 'In the meantime... don't know how long this recovery journey is going to be yet or whether surgery will go ahead, but it's looking likely.'

Background on the Injury

Earlier this month, Simpson revealed he was forced to temporarily step away from his singing career. He shared a photo of himself hooked up to an EKG monitor on Instagram, opening up about the ordeal. 'Hey guys. I originally thought I could keep this private but it's time I share what I've been going through. Just over a month ago we discovered a serious haemorrhage on one of my vocal cords,' he wrote.

The injury was triggered by pushing through illness while working in the studio. 'It occurred due to my overzealousness in the studio singing, through a sinus infection I didn't know I had. Assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing,' he explained.

Impact on Career

The setback has disrupted key career commitments, including scheduled promotional appearances and plans for new music. 'I've now been on and off vocal rest for weeks, cancelling TV and radio performances in the process. This has also affected my ability to complete the album and polish up the next singles. I've just been prescribed another 2 weeks of silence in hopes of avoiding a surgery which demands a much longer recovery process,' he wrote.

Despite the challenges, Simpson remains determined. 'I'm back in the studio now writing strictly as a lyricist on mute with my collaborators, and hearing/writing my vocal melodies on my guitar (which I will eventually replace with my voice when I'm able to). Where there's a will, there's a way.'

Reframing the Experience

Simpson says he is trying to view the situation as a forced reset rather than a setback. 'I'd like to bring you on the journey. I've been extremely up and down but am now reframing this as a realignment for the long-term good,' he wrote.

Earlier this year, Simpson also gave fans an update on his relationship status after his split from Emma McKeon. The couple ended their four-year relationship in February, and since then, Simpson has been linked to American influencer Adelia Clark. However, he recently revealed that he is taking some 'me time' following the breakup.
