Carol Kirkwood Disappointed by 'Average' Fitness in Health Check

Former BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, 64, admitted she felt 'disappointed' after a recent health assessment revealed her fitness level was only 'average.' Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she told hosts Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh that while the overall check-up was 'reassuring,' her fitness rating was a letdown.

Health Assessment Results

Kirkwood said she decided to undergo a group of mature health assessments to ensure she stays healthy as she ages. 'For me, the best is yet to come. I want to live life well into old age,' she explained. She added that prevention is better than cure, noting that only 12% of people would consider a health assessment before something goes wrong, according to research.

Despite her disappointment, Kirkwood was pleased with her cholesterol results. 'I thought my cholesterol was going to be horrific because my body is full of chocolates. This is not a temple. But my cholesterol was fine,' she said.

Fitness Rating and Lifestyle Changes

Kirkwood confessed she expected her fitness to be 'really quite good' because she walks and exercises regularly. 'But it was just average. So I was really disappointed,' she said. Kate Garraway remarked that it shows you have to look at life differently, to which Kirkwood agreed.

Since leaving the BBC after 28 years, Kirkwood has embraced a new lifestyle with her husband Steve. She used to sleep during the day and go to bed between 7pm and 8pm, but now enjoys evenings out. 'Steve and I saw each other for about four hours a week between Sunday and Thursday. So now we've got our evening. And it's really nice,' she said.

Positive Outlook on Aging

Kirkwood highlighted that 41% of people believe life will be good as they age, based on research. She emphasized the importance of being healthy, active, and independent. 'Prevention for me is much better than cure,' she concluded.

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV from 6am.
