The parents of an 11-year-old girl are demanding urgent action from her school after their daughter attempted to take her own life, following months of relentless and vicious bullying that they claim was ignored by authorities.
Scarlett, a Year 7 pupil from Bury, Greater Manchester, was found by her horrified mother, Vicky, in a critical condition after the desperate act. She was rushed to hospital, where she spent two days fighting for her life.
A Pattern of Abuse Ignored
Her family reveals that the bullying began the moment she started secondary school and escalated horrifically. Scarlett was subjected to a torrent of abuse, both physically and online. "They were kicking her, calling her horrible names, and then it moved to Snapchat," her mother recounted. The situation became so dire that other parents reportedly warned Vicky that a group of girls was "out to get" her daughter.
Despite repeatedly alerting the school about the abuse, Scarlett's parents assert that their pleas for help were met with inaction. The final straw came when Scarlett was attacked on her way home, an event the school allegedly failed to adequately address.
The Fight for Accountability and Change
Now, from her hospital bed, Scarlett is bravely speaking out, telling her parents, "You need to tell them, you need to tell them what they've done to me." Her family is channelling their anguish into action, vowing to ensure no other child suffers the same fate.
They are calling for a thorough investigation into the school's handling of the case and for stronger anti-bullying protocols to be enforced immediately. A spokesperson for the school has stated that they treat all bullying allegations with the "utmost seriousness" and are conducting their own internal review.
This heartbreaking case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the devastating real-world consequences of school bullying and the critical importance of robust mental health support for young people.
