A young pregnant mother from Devon died unexpectedly in her sleep after telling her family she felt unwell following a takeaway meal.
A Tragic and Sudden Loss
Charlie Comer, aged 22, was 20 weeks pregnant and looking forward to the arrival of her second child, a boy she planned to name Arlo. Described as fit and healthy by her mother, Carrie Burns, 42, Charlie was experiencing only typical morning sickness and was otherwise well.
On the evening of Sunday, October 13, Charlie ate a meal from a local chip shop. She later complained of feeling poorly, believing the food might have been "a bit dodgy," and went to bed. Tragically, she never woke up.
A Family Left Heartbroken and Seeking Answers
The sudden death has left Charlie's family devastated. She is survived by her 18-month-old daughter, Remi, who now lives with her father. "Remi is very much like her mum, she's her mum's double. She's too young to understand what's gone on," Ms Burns told DevonLive.
Unborn baby Arlo also died with his mother. In a poignant decision, the family arranged for Charlie's body to be sent to Southampton for a specialist post-mortem to ensure her baby remained with her.
A standard post-mortem examination has so far been unable to determine a cause of death. The family now awaits further test results and a date for an inquest, with the lack of answers adding to their grief. "My daughter passed away very suddenly, it was totally unexpected," said Ms Burns.
Community Support and Remembering Charlie
To manage the financial burden, the family set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs. The fundraiser has raised over £1,700. On the page, Ms Burns remembered her daughter as a "bold, vibrant character who loved to make people happy and laugh."
She wrote: "Charlie had her struggles in life but she had just found her light again and was so looking forward to the future with her baby boy and her beautiful daughter Remi-Jade. To be taken so young is just beyond devastating."
