Jessie J Breaks Down On Stage Singing About 2021 Miscarriage
Jessie J's emotional on-stage breakdown over miscarriage

Pop sensation Jessie J delivered a raw and emotional performance in London, breaking down in tears while singing a heart-wrenching track about the miscarriage she suffered in 2021.

A Powerful On-Stage Moment

The Price Tag singer was performing songs from her new album Don't Tease Me with a Good Time ahead of its release on Friday, November 28, when she became visibly overwhelmed. Introducing her song Comes in Waves, which was directly inspired by her personal tragedy, Jessie shared a poignant message with the audience.

She revealed to the crowd that the day of the performance marked four years since she lost her baby. In footage obtained by the Daily Mail, the singer stated, "I don't know if anyone has gone through the same thing, but if you have, or you know someone close to you and you saw it, it's really f**king bad."

Turning Pain Into Art

Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, continued by explaining the profound nature of the experience. "It's something that you can't ever really prepare to go through," she told the audience. "This song is for anybody that needs that hug. I hope this song can help you as it's helped me."

During the performance, the singer turned away from the audience, wiping tears from her face as she sang the poignant lyrics: "It comes in waves, like I'm drownin' in a love I crave that you gave to me / And I hate how much I miss the future that we never made."

A Journey of Heartbreak and Hope

The artist's difficult journey has been publicly documented. Back in November 2021, she shared on Instagram that she had "decided to have a baby on my own" but tragically, after her third scan, was told "there was no longer a heartbeat."

She posted a photo of herself holding a positive pregnancy test, writing about the whiplash of emotions from planning to announce her pregnancy at a gig to instead "dreading the thought of getting through the gig without breaking down."

In a testament to her resilience, two years after this heartbreak, in May 2023, Jessie J welcomed her son Sky with her boyfriend Chanan Safir Colman. She has since spoken candidly about using her music as a form of therapy and connection.

Speaking to People magazine earlier this year about her single No Secrets, which opens with the lyric "I lost my baby / But the show must go on, right?", she explained her desire to have a "face-to-face, eye contact conversation" with her listeners about grief and loss.

Jessie J's new album, Don't Tease Me with a Good Time, is now available.
