Nurse's Solo IVF Journey Takes Unexpected Romantic Turn

Natalie Le Prevost, a 39-year-old district nurse from Paignton, Devon, had always envisioned being married by age 30 and raising a large family. However, after a broken engagement in 2018 and six years of unsuccessful dating, she made the courageous decision to pursue motherhood independently through fertility treatment abroad.

Abandoning Dating for Solo Parenthood

Following three relationships and fifteen dates over six years, Natalie became disillusioned with finding lasting love. "I kept feeling let down in relationships, or there was no chemistry," she explained. "I gave up on love and just decided to go it alone." Determined to fulfil her lifelong dream of motherhood, she researched fertility options and discovered that treatment in Spain offered significant cost savings compared to the United Kingdom.

The Spanish IVF Journey

Natalie chose Vida Fertility clinic in Alicante, Spain, where her parents had previously resided and where she frequently holidayed. Her parents, Jasmin (71) and Alan (73), fully supported her decision and accompanied her for the procedures. Initially, she paid €1,200 for Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) in September 2024, but when this proved unsuccessful, she immediately opted for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) due to its higher success rates.

The complete IVF package, including a three-week stay and flights, totalled €5,300 (approximately £5,655). In Spain, sperm donation remains completely anonymous, though Natalie completed a form requesting preferences for her donor match, including his interests and educational background. She even submitted three photographs of her ideal type, using images of former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain footballer Marco Asensio.

Successful Conception and Unexpected Romance

Natalie underwent her first IVF cycle in March 2025, producing two embryos with only one proving robust enough for implantation. "I knew it all rested on this one," she recalled. On April 19, 2025, she took an early morning pregnancy test and was thrilled to see the positive result. "I was on cloud nine," she said. "I loved being pregnant. I worried but when I heard his heartbeat for the first time I relaxed."

Remarkably, just four months after becoming pregnant, Natalie met electrician Adam Rice (39) while both were working in a care home. They had initially encountered each other in January 2025, seeing one another roughly once monthly. Adam made contact and invited her on a date in June 2025, when Natalie was four months pregnant. From that first outing, she immediately recognised him as her soulmate.

Welcoming Baby Zavi-Emilio

Natalie was induced at 39 weeks on December 21, 2025, but when labour failed to commence, she underwent a caesarean section. Her son, Zavi-Emilio, weighing 8lbs 9oz, arrived at 2:25pm on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025. The name honours his Spanish heritage from the anonymous donor. "It was unreal to hold him for the first time," Natalie said. "I was so emotional. It was the best feeling ever - I'll never forget it."

A Blended Family Forms

Adam fully embraced Natalie's journey to motherhood, attending the hospital shortly after Zavi's arrival. The couple now spend five evenings weekly together as a family. "We're soulmates," Natalie said. "No relationship has felt like this before. We're even born two days apart." Adam discovered Natalie was pregnant halfway through their first date but was captivated by her honesty and strength. "With every date I felt myself falling for her more deeply," he said. "Watching her bump grow felt incredibly special."

Regarding meeting Zavi, Adam added: "The first time I met Zavi, everything inside me just settled - I felt calm, steady and certain. I knew in that moment I was meant to be in his life. He may not be biologically mine, but that doesn't change what I feel in my heart."

Message to Other Women

Natalie harbours no regrets about embarking on solo parenthood and offers advice to other women feeling unfortunate in romance: "You're better off going it alone than staying in a relationship that isn't working for you for the sake of wanting a child." She reflects on her unexpected journey: "I feel so lucky. Zavi is my little miracle. I just stare at him, taking in all the little details. It's amazing. Everything I've always wanted has fallen into place."
