Beloved children's nutritionist and author Annabel Karmel has announced she has been 'promoted to Nana' following the birth of her first grandchild.
A Precious Early Arrival
The TV and radio personality shared the happy news on Instagram, revealing her son Nick and his wife Sophia welcomed a baby boy. The little one, affectionately referred to as 'Baby Karmel', arrived slightly earlier than his due date of 4th January.
Annabel explained that Sophia was induced, and the baby was born a week ago, on 24th December 2024. His early entrance led to a challenging start, with concerns over his breathing requiring him to spend his first six days in an incubator to help his lungs mature.
An Emotional Journey Home
The nutritionist described the past week as a time of "anxious moments," noting how difficult it was to see the tiny newborn surrounded by medical equipment. However, she shared the immense relief felt by the family when doctors gave the all-clear for the baby to leave hospital on 30th December.
"The relief and happiness are beyond words," Annabel wrote on her social media post, celebrating the fact her grandson was finally strong enough to go home with his parents.
Celebrating a New Chapter
Instead of traditional New Year's Eve festivities, the family is now enjoying a different kind of celebration. Annabel gushed that they are "welcoming 2025 with a brand-new family member" and marking the occasion with "feeds, naps, and the tiniest but most powerful new arrival imaginable."
She also humorously appointed her grandson as her 'first unpaid food taster', a nod to her legendary career creating recipes for children. Annabel Karmel ended her announcement by stating she "cannot think of a better way to end the year or begin a new one."
