Annabel Karmel Becomes a Nana as Son Welcomes Baby Boy After 'Anxious' Start
Annabel Karmel promoted to Nana after son's baby joy

Celebrated children's nutritionist and author Annabel Karmel has shared some wonderful personal news, revealing she has been 'promoted to Nana' after the birth of her first grandchild.

An Early Arrival and a Worrying Start

The TV and radio personality announced on Instagram that her son, Nick, and his wife, Sophia, welcomed a baby boy slightly ahead of schedule. The infant was not due until 4th January 2025, but arrived a week prior, on or around 24th December 2024.

Karmel described the past week as containing 'some anxious moments'. Due to concerns about the newborn's breathing, he required specialist care and spent the first six days of his life in an incubator. This was to allow his lungs time to mature and to help him build the strength needed to feed independently.

'It was a worrying and emotional time, and nothing prepares you for seeing someone so tiny surrounded by tubes and oxygen,' the bestselling author wrote on her social media page.

Home for the New Year

Thankfully, the story has a happy conclusion. Karmel shared that the baby boy was given the all-clear by doctors and was strong enough to go home on 30th December.

'The relief and happiness are beyond words,' she expressed, marking the eve of New Year's Eve as the beginning of a new chapter for the family.

Instead of traditional New Year celebrations, Karmel indicated the family would be 'celebrating with feeds, naps, and the tiniest but most powerful new arrival imaginable.'

A New Role for the Food Expert

Ever the foodie, Annabel Karmel couldn't resist a playful nod to her professional life in her announcement. She joked that Baby Karmel had already taken on his role with enthusiasm, describing him as her 'first unpaid food taster'.

The beloved child nutrition expert, known for her hugely popular cookbooks and frequent media appearances, ended her caption on a joyous note: 'I cannot think of a better way to end the year or begin a new one.'

The news was shared with her followers alongside a series of photos of the newborn with his proud parents, Nick and Sophia.
