Bruce Brown, a grandfather from Wales, is fighting for his life in a Greek hospital after an ear infection reportedly caused him to fall into a coma. Originally from Bangor, Brown became critically ill while visiting Greece on a day trip from his home in Turkey.
His family said the grandfather, who also previously lived in Llanfairfechan, remains in intensive care. Because Brown fell ill in Greece, relatives claim his Turkish health insurance will not cover his treatment.
Family launches £20,000 fundraiser
Relatives are now attempting to raise £20,000 towards his hospital care, medication and an air ambulance to move him for the further treatment he needs. Brown’s granddaughter, Emmie Stringer, launched an online fundraiser after the family was faced with paying the mounting medical costs themselves.
Stringer said: “Our much-loved Bruce has unexpectedly been left fighting for his life after an ear infection sadly led to him falling into a coma. This means our family is now facing the devastating reality of having to fund his medical care ourselves, including hospital treatment, medication, intensive care and the air ambulance needed to get him the care he requires.”
Family describes grandfather’s character
The family described Brown as one of the “kindest, most loving and caring” people they knew. Stringer added: “He is the sort of person who would do absolutely anything for anyone, without ever expecting anything in return. He means so much to our family, and it is heartbreaking to see him in this situation.”
Relatives are also approaching businesses around North Wales for prizes, vouchers and services which could support further fundraising.
