An NHS trust has taken disciplinary action against multiple employees following a probe into the treatment of victims from the Nottingham attacks. The trust confirmed that a number of staff members have been dismissed after an internal investigation revealed significant shortcomings in the care provided to those injured in the incident.
Investigation Findings
The investigation, conducted by the trust, focused on the response to the victims who were brought in for emergency treatment. Reports indicate that there were delays in diagnosis and inadequate communication with families. The trust stated that the failings were serious and warranted immediate action.
Disciplinary Measures
In addition to the sackings, other staff members have received formal warnings or been required to undertake retraining. The trust emphasized that patient safety is its utmost priority and that it will not tolerate lapses in care.
The Nottingham attacks, which occurred in June 2023, resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries. The trust's response has been under scrutiny since the incident, with families of victims calling for accountability.
A spokesperson for the trust said: "We are deeply sorry for the failures identified. We have taken decisive action to ensure that lessons are learned and that our services improve." The trust also confirmed that it is cooperating with any external reviews and has implemented new protocols to prevent recurrence.
