Nottingham University Hospitals Foundation Trust has taken decisive action against staff who improperly accessed the medical records of victims of the Nottingham stabbing attack. Eleven employees have been dismissed, and a further 14 have received disciplinary sanctions, including 12 final written warnings and two first written warnings.
Background of the Incident
The victims—students Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, and grandfather Ian Coates—were killed in a stabbing rampage carried out by Valdo Calocane on 13 June 2023. The trust launched an investigation in early 2025 to identify any wrongdoing and ensure accountability.
Disciplinary Outcomes
The staff found to have accessed the records without authorization included doctors, nurses, other registered medical professionals, and administrative personnel. The trust stated that the disciplinary measures were necessary to uphold patient confidentiality and trust.
Mothers of the Nottingham attack victims have previously called for the truth to be told, emphasizing the need for transparency and justice. The trust's actions reflect a commitment to addressing breaches of data protection and maintaining the integrity of medical records.
