Home and Away star Sarah Roberts has shared a health update on social media after undergoing surgery to remove a golf ball-sized fibroid. The 41-year-old actress, known for playing Willow Harris on the Australian soap between 2017 and 2021, revealed the procedure on Instagram this week.
Surgery and Recovery
Roberts said she had a myomectomy, a surgical procedure in which non-cancerous uterine fibroids are removed from the uterus while keeping it intact to preserve fertility, as stated by the NHS. The fibroid had caused her to go to the hospital on several occasions.
In her Instagram post, she said: "This time last week, I would’ve been in the theatre, or just coming out. Not the type of theatre I usually go to!" She nicknamed the removed fibroid 'Felicia', noting that she did 'wince in pain as I laugh at my own joke'.
Health Struggles and Support
Roberts described the fibroid's impact: "She’d grown to the size of a golf ball, sending me to emergency whenever my period came and making it impossible to do anything without looking like I’d stepped off the set of 'Kill Bill'." She added: "Time for her to leave the building! My anaesthetist told me they’d operated on a girl with one the size of a beach ball the week before. Wtaf?!"
She opened up about her recovery, saying it feels 'weird' to have nothing to do all day, and expressed gratitude for the support she received. She mentioned her boyfriend flew back from Vancouver to help her walk, and a woman in the next cubicle, who had her own ovaries removed, helped her butter and honey her toast when she couldn't reach it.
Looking Ahead
Roberts said her surgery was a reminder that 'constant productivity doesn’t equal worth'. She concluded her post: "We need wonder, connection and rest, too. Life isn’t a to-do list. It’s a gift."
