Dragon's Back Race Raises £1,160 for Crosshouse Stroke Unit

Callum Laird, from New Cumnock, has raised £1,160 for the Stroke Unit at University Hospital Crosshouse by completing the Dragon's Back Race, a gruelling six-day challenge across Wales.

A 236-Mile Challenge

The race spans 236 miles with an ascent of 50,000 feet, stretching from Conwy in the north of Wales to Cardiff in the south. Callum chose to support the Stroke Unit because some of his friends had received care there.

He visited the ward to present the donation to the team.

Grateful Thanks from the Ward

Christine Somerville, Senior Charge Nurse on Ward 3E, expressed gratitude for Callum's efforts. "We are incredibly grateful to Callum for taking on such an impressive challenge and choosing to support our ward. Raising £1,160 is a fantastic achievement and we would also like to thank everyone who generously supported him," she said.

Somerville added that the donation will be used to improve patients' experience during their stay, helping make their time on the ward as comfortable and positive as possible.

Fundraising Success

Callum said he was delighted that his fundraising would benefit the ward and thanked everyone whose donations helped him reach the total.
