Ruth Codd's Defiant Health Update After Second Leg Amputation
Ruth Codd shares health update after second amputation

Irish actress and reality TV star Ruth Codd has issued a characteristically defiant update to her social media followers as she continues her recovery from a second below-the-knee amputation. The 29-year-old, who rose to fame on The Celebrity Traitors, confirmed the major surgery in November and is currently recuperating at her parents' home.

A Journey of Resilience and Recovery

Codd's medical journey began with a football injury sustained when she was just 15, which never healed correctly. At the age of 23, she made the difficult decision to have her first leg amputated. After years of worsening nerve pain and multiple failed surgeries that severely impacted her mental health, she opted for a second amputation late last year. "When I made the decision to amputate it, things finally started to turn around. It was a relief. I could get on my life," she previously told the Irish Examiner.

In a selfie shared on Instagram this week, Codd made a bold one-finger gesture, captioning the post: 'After a brief hiatus, world domination and winding up middle aged white men shall resume as of 10am. New legs loading.' The post signals her immediate plans to regain mobility with a new prosthetic leg.

Life in the Spotlight and the Traitors Castle

Codd first found a large audience on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a mix of comedic content and videos focused on disability awareness. This online presence led to her being cast in Netflix's The Midnight Club with no prior acting experience, followed by a role in the critically acclaimed horror miniseries The Fall of the House of Usher in 2023.

Her profile soared further after appearing on the first British series of The Celebrity Traitors in October. She was the second contestant to be 'murdered' in the game, eliminated by a group including presenter Jonathan Ross, singer Cat Burns, and the show's eventual winner, comedian Alan Carr. Reflecting on the surreal experience, she said: "I’m not sure that I’m not about to be woken up from a very weird dream."

Humor and Honesty During Rehabilitation

While recovering and wheelchair-bound, Codd has maintained her trademark wit. In a recent TikTok video, she explained her situation to followers, noting she could no longer film in her preferred room due to it being upstairs. She also introduced her new wheelchair, which she has affectionately named "Fat Tony," joking about its limited speed, especially when faced with a step.

Her candid and humorous approach to sharing her journey continues to resonate with fans, turning a personal health challenge into a powerful narrative about resilience, disability visibility, and moving forward with unapologetic spirit.
