Ruth Codd Undergoes Second Leg Amputation, Shares Recovery Journey
Ruth Codd has second leg amputation, reveals recovery

Irish actor and The Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd has publicly announced that she is recovering after undergoing a second below-knee amputation. The 29-year-old performer shared the significant health update with her followers in a candid TikTok video, marking a new chapter in her long-standing journey with chronic pain and mobility.

A Full Circle Moment: Codd's Announcement

On Wednesday, Codd posted a video from her parents' home, where she revealed the major surgery with her characteristic blend of honesty and humour. She described the situation as a "full circle moment," referring back to her early TikTok content created in the same house.

"Good news, we've had a full circle moment. I'm back making TikTok content in my parents' house," Codd said. "Bad news, I can't do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper any more, due to the fact that that room is upstairs. I've just had my second below-knee amputation."

This operation comes six years after her first leg amputation, which was the result of a football injury sustained during her teenage years. That initial injury led to years of complex surgeries and persistent chronic pain.

The Road to Surgery and Life with 'Fat Tony'

In a recent interview on the YouTube channel FFTV, Codd provided more context for the difficult decision. She explained that she had already undergone surgery to remove all the toes on her left foot in 2021. This was a consequence of relying on crutches for nearly eight years, which destroyed the joints in her foot.

Doctors ultimately informed her that the foot was "never going to get any better" and that its condition was making it increasingly challenging for her to work and perform. "It's gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it," she stated.

In her TikTok video, Codd also introduced her followers to her new wheelchair, which she has affectionately named "Fat Tony." Joking, "This is my new whip," she showcased the chair. In the video's caption, she added with her trademark wit, "No legs who dis? #paralympics2026."

Looking Ahead: Recovery and Career

Codd detailed that the recovery process will require patience. She must wait for at least a month for the limb to heal sufficiently before she can be fitted for a prosthetic. The actor first built a substantial online following during the Covid-19 pandemic, where she shared comedy sketches and promoted disability awareness.

Her career has since flourished, with notable roles in Netflix horror series such as The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher. She also appeared in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors earlier this year, where she was memorably "murdered" in episode four after correctly identifying Jonathan Ross as a Traitor during a round table discussion.

Through her openness about her personal health struggles, Codd continues to be a prominent voice for disability representation both on-screen and online.
