Tommy Walsh, the 69-year-old TV presenter best known for Ground Force and Homes Under the Hammer, has revealed his third cancer battle after doctors discovered a 3cm tumour under his lung. The London-born builder and property expert shared the news at a charity event, explaining he had to leave early for an emergency appointment.
Third Cancer Scare in 2024
In early 2024, Walsh told an audience: “I have an emergency appointment at 9am tomorrow morning back in London. I had a chest infection, had to go to the doctor and they sent me up to the hospital for a CT scan and they think there’s a three-centimetre tumour in the lung.” He added, “That’s why I’m going to have to leave after this talk and I won’t be able to join you for a few beers tonight.”
Walsh underwent targeted SABR radiotherapy, which successfully shrank the cancer. He stated: “It is now not anywhere else. It is going away. Because it is shrinking it will shrink down to nothing and disappear.”
Previous Cancer Diagnoses
In 2022, Walsh discovered a cancerous lump in his throat during a routine GP visit for an unrelated issue. He said: “I went to my GP about an unrelated issue and while I was there, he discovered this lump in my throat that he was a bit concerned about. He said it may be nothing but that he would rather I went and got it checked and, unfortunately, it turned out to be cancerous. I had to go in straight away and have surgery to remove it. I am now fully recovered and even back playing football!”
His first scare came in 2002 when two benign lumps were removed from his chest. Walsh also has a family history of cancer; his sister reportedly had a lumpectomy for breast cancer at age 31.
Career and Public Profile
Walsh rose to fame on the BBC’s garden makeover show Ground Force alongside Alan Titchmarsh from 1997 to 2005. He later became a regular presenter on Homes Under the Hammer. The father of three remains one of the UK's most recognisable TV faces.
