Davina McCall has revealed she has cardiovascular disease, urging women not to dismiss potential warning signs. The TV presenter shared the news on her Begin Again podcast, where she spoke with heart attack survivor Louise McGill about women's heart health.
McCall said she had been told she had high cholesterol for some time. "Heart attacks and cardiovascular disease is rife out there, particularly in women post-menopause," she said. "If there's one takeaway today, it's not to brush things off."
What is cardiovascular disease?
The NHS explains that CVD covers conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels and that a healthy lifestyle and medication can help reduce the risk. It says that symptoms of cardiovascular disease (CVD) will depend on the condition the person has - some conditions may not have any symptoms.
Recognising the first signs
For some people, the first sign that they have CVD may be having chest pain (angina), a heart attack or stroke. McCall's disclosure follows her previous diagnoses of breast cancer and a brain tumour, and she continues to share health updates publicly.
