Police chase wild boar through Zaragoza festival

Police in Zaragoza, Spain, chased a wild boar that ran loose through the city centre during a festival, with the animal even stepping onto a dance floor in a nightclub. The boar was later euthanised to prevent further harm.

Boar charges at woman and runs through streets

According to El Periodico de Aragon, the boar charged at a woman just after midnight, causing her minor injuries. The animal then ran past city landmarks and along major thoroughfares, with officers pursuing it in vehicles.

Bystanders outside bars watched as the pig appeared to evade authorities, while police used a megaphone to warn passers-by to 'take care'. The boar was also seen running on tram lines and across roads.

Nightclub incident and euthanasia

The animal then entered an entertainment venue and attempted moves on a dance floor as revellers looked on. Emergency services entered the nightclub to chase the hog, but the adventure ended when authorities euthanised it. Its remains were removed in a van by staff from environmental firm FCC.

The incident occurred on the last day of the Fiestas de Pilar, a week-long celebration honouring the patron saint of the Aragonese capital.

Climate change and urban sightings

Climate change has led to an increase in wild boar sightings in Spain, particularly in urban areas as the animals search for food amid dwindling natural supplies. The traditionally nocturnal animals have become common in holiday spots, including the southern Costa del Sol.
