She Remains Brave, a new community coffee shop and boutique on Huddersfield Road in Newhey, has opened with a mission to raise awareness of sexual violence, support survivors, and foster a more informed and compassionate community.
A personal mission
Founder Becky Taylor created the space after a challenging period in her life, during which she felt isolated and unheard. She wanted to provide a place where people could disconnect from phones and engage in meaningful conversations.

Community support and resources
With the help of family, friends, and local businesses, Becky and her team of volunteers transformed an empty shop into a thriving community space. The cafe serves coffee, tea, cakes, and lunch dishes, and also provides a platform for local makers and small businesses to showcase their products.
Shelves are lined with handmade items like cards, keychains, teddy bears, and candle melts, alongside resources from organizations such as Andy's Man Club and The Maggie Oliver Foundation.
Affordable and welcoming
Becky has kept costs low to ensure the space is accessible to all. The menu includes toasties and jacket potatoes from £3.50, plus omelettes, soup, sandwiches, and salad bowls. A meal deal offers a hot drink and cake for £3, and there is a children's menu.
Becky has used her life savings to fund the venture. The landlord has bought the building, allowing the cafe to expand in the future, with plans for more spaces for counselling sessions and community groups.
