An escaped snake has been spotted lashing out and attempting to bite passers-by in Glasgow city centre, leaving shoppers "horrified".
Incident on Argyle Street
The cold-blooded reptile was recorded in a TikTok video on the bustling Argyle Street outside one of the entrances to the St Enoch shopping centre. In the clip, the serpent is seen lunging at unknowing people's ankles as they attempt to walk by.
Other photographs online showed the snake being covered by a cardboard box with a security guard standing alongside. The reptile is understood to have then been placed into the box to be taken away.
Eyewitness reactions
It's not known at this time how the snake ended up being loose on the busy street. Writing online, one eyewitness said: "The snake was clearly f*****g terrified and could have hurt someone."
Others took to social media to share their concern. One said: "I know I have an irrational fear of snakes but I always control it by knowing that it is highly unlikely I’d ever come across one randomly …now this!! I was genuinely in town today."
A second said: "This has made me so raging. The wee soul is in fight or flight. I’d have phoned SSPCA." Another wrote: "I don’t like snakes but it shouldn’t be left there. The poor thing will be terrified. I hope it’s okay."
