An escaped snake lunged at pedestrians in Glasgow city centre, leaving shoppers horrified. The reptile was recorded in a TikTok video on Argyle Street, outside an entrance to the St Enoch shopping centre, where it can be seen attempting to bite people's ankles as they walk by.
Snake contained after being spotted
Photographs shared online showed the snake covered by a cardboard box, with a security guard standing nearby. The reptile was later placed into the box and taken away. It is not yet known how the snake ended up loose on the busy street.
Witnesses express concern
One eyewitness wrote online: "The snake was clearly f*****g terrified and could have hurt someone." Others took to social media to share their reactions. One person said: "I know I have an irrational fear of snakes but I always control it by knowing that it is highly unlikely I’d ever come across one randomly …now this!! I was genuinely in town today."
A second commented: "This has made me so raging. The wee soul is in fight or flight. I’d have phoned SSPCA." Another wrote: "I don’t like snakes but it shouldn’t be left there. The poor thing will be terrified. I hope it’s okay."

Police Scotland and the Scottish SSPCA have been contacted for comment.
