A one-year-old dog discovered running down a road in Crete with a heavy chain hanging from her neck is now searching for a new home in the UK.
Rescue in Arkalochori
Lilika was found in Arkalochori, Crete, where she was seen running along the road with the chain attached to her neck. The distressing sight indicated she had experienced a difficult start to life and may never have known the care, safety and freedom every dog deserves.
A rescue volunteer spotted Lilika and stepped in before she could come to further harm. She brought her safely out of danger and is now fighting to give her a better life.
A loving personality
Despite the frightening circumstances she was found in, rescuers say Lilika has shown just how loving and trusting she can be. Now safe and being cared for in kennels in Crete, the 13kg dog has revealed a joyful personality that volunteers say is impossible not to fall in love with.
Lilika has a stunning, fluffy coat and a bushy tail, but it is her sweet nature that really makes her stand out. She is described as friendly, affectionate and loving, greeting people warmly despite everything she has been through.
Ready for adoption
Rather than allowing her past to change her, Lilika has remained a trusting and happy girl who is simply waiting for someone to give her the chance she deserves. She is now fully prepared for adoption in the UK through Greek Stray ResQ and is looking for a forever family.
Commenting on her rehoming post, one user said: "Pretty small girl needs home with good owner. She looks possibly part whippet that are delicate souls." Another added: "A beautiful girl with a wonderful smile. I can only imagine how much she will smile in her own family home, she is a gem!"
