Luna, a five-year-old mixed-breed cat rescued from the streets of Romania in October 2022, is still waiting for a permanent UK home. Her rescuer believes she is being overlooked because of her ordinary looks.
Luna was found outside an apartment building, appearing confused and desperately searching for food. Her rescuer took her in and initially hoped to find her owner, but it soon emerged that her previous family had given her up after getting two pedigree cats.
Returned after adoption failed
Hoping to give Luna a fresh start, her rescuer eventually found her a new home. Sadly, the adoption did not work out, and she was returned a few months later because her new owner felt she was not getting along with their other cat.
Since then, Luna has been living in foster care alongside several other cats. Despite having no known health problems or physical disabilities, she has struggled to attract interest.
Her rescuer said: "My efforts to find a forever home for her didn't stop there, but unfortunately nobody seemed to want her due to her common appearance. She doesn't have a physical disability or health issues, she's just unwanted here."
A calm and independent companion
Weighing just 5kg, Luna is described as an adaptable and independent feline who is happy to potter around without needing constant attention. Her rescuer said she settled into her foster home remarkably quickly, showing little fear of unfamiliar surroundings, new people or everyday household noises.
Now past the energetic kitten stage, Luna enjoys a more relaxed lifestyle. She likes watching the world go by from a window, playing occasionally with a toy and enjoying her favourite food. Wet food is one of the easiest ways to win her affection, but she also has a cuddly side that comes out when she feels comfortable.
Her rescuer explained: "Being the independent and discreet lady cat that she is, she's not too clingy. She comes to you when she wants affection, would cuddle in your lap when you sit down. But she doesn't need constant attention."
Looking for a peaceful home
Sharing her foster home with several other cats has made it harder for Luna to feel completely at ease. Although she has adapted to living alongside them, she is not particularly comfortable when other cats invade her personal space or approach while she is receiving affection.
Her rescuer believes this reflects Luna's gentle and sensitive personality rather than aggression. Instead of competing for attention, she tends to quietly withdraw and let the other cats take centre stage.
Luna's ideal home would be a peaceful household where she could enjoy life as the only cat. She has had limited experience with dogs and may initially be frightened of them, but a calm, older dog could potentially be suitable if she were given time to settle.
After years of uncertainty, Luna is now looking for a family in the UK who will give her the chance to enjoy a permanent home of her own. While she may not have unusual markings or a particularly striking appearance, her rescuer hopes someone will look beyond that and see the loving companion waiting to emerge.
