A man was left stunned after spotting a black cat wandering around Alton Towers — and later learned the animal had allegedly travelled around six miles from home to get there.
Microchip led to owner
Coastertog, a theme park content creator, shared the story on Facebook. He wrote: "Goodbye, Alton Towers cat. This story is kinda crazy! Yesterday, this loveable fella was taken to the vets by Alton Towers staff, and it turns out he was microchipped and had an owner!"
He continued: "His name is Plagg, and he had wandered all the way from his home in Cheadle to spend all his time at Alton Towers (sounds a bit like me). Plagg has now been reunited with his family from Cheadle."
Concern he may return
Cheadle is approximately six miles away from Alton Towers. Coastertog asked people to report any further sightings, writing: "If you ever see Plagg back at the resort again, please let me know, as staff are worried he may wander back to the park. So goodbye, Plagg, it's been lovely knowing you, but I'm so happy you're now safe and back home."

In the comments, one person recalled his grandparents' cat, Wisky, who repeatedly returned to their old home after they moved three miles away. "Three times my Grandad went in search of Wisky the cat and took him back home to their new home. But Wisky had other ideas and again wandered off."
The commenter said his grandfather eventually spoke to the new tenants rather than bringing Wisky back. "Wisky had become content with his old home surroundings and just wouldn't adjust to change. To this day, I never knew what the outcome was for Wisky [...] So if Plagg does return to Alton Towers, it may be for the best just to leave Plagg be to live his cat life as he chooses, and so to avoid any unnecessary unwanted stress."
Another person joked: "That cat would rather be a stray at Alton Towers than live in Cheadle!"
