A vandal has drained a lake in Worcestershire after mistakenly believing a Harley-Davidson motorbike was submerged in the water. The culprit used bolt cutters on a sluice gate at Lodge Park fishery near Redditch, causing around one million gallons of water to flow into the River Arrow.
The water level dropped by four feet in parts of the five-acre lake, leading to the loss of thousands of fish, including carp, bream, roach, and perch. The incident occurred after a motorbike was previously recovered from the lake, sparking rumours that another bike was hidden there.
Mike Padgett, from the fishery's angling association, described the act as 'mindless'. He said: 'A month ago we dragged a motorbike from the lake. Somebody has misconstrued that and Chinese whispers spread.'
Police have not yet made an arrest, but locals have identified a suspect. Severn Trent Water has since pumped 150,000 gallons of water back into the lake, raising the level by three inches.
