A four-year-old girl has died following an incident at Waterworld in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire police have confirmed. Officers were called to the water park on Festival Way at approximately 4.20pm on Monday after reports of a child in a critical condition. The girl was treated at the scene by lifeguards and paramedics before being taken to hospital, where she later died.
In a statement, Waterworld said the incident occurred in the lagoon area of the aqua park. Staff found the child unconscious and immediately provided CPR while emergency services were called. The park announced it would remain closed on Tuesday as a mark of respect.
Staffordshire police said the girl's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Maskew appealed for the public to avoid speculation while inquiries continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 460 of 4 August.
