Waterworld has denied reports that a four-year-old girl who died after an incident at the Stoke-on-Trent water park was in the wave pool at the time. Staffordshire Police were called to the park on Monday, August 4, after the child became critically ill.
The girl received immediate medical attention at the scene before being taken to hospital, where she later died. The accident is believed to have occurred in the lagoon area, not the wave pool, according to the park.
In a statement, a Waterworld spokesperson said: “We confirm that this incident did not take place in the Wave Pool, nor were the waves on at the time.” The park added that safety procedures are “extremely rigorous” and that they have cooperated fully with authorities, allowing Waterworld to reopen on Wednesday, August 6.
The incident follows the death of a toddler in Croatia who reportedly slipped from her father’s arms while descending a slide at the Aquagan waterpark in Lopar. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the latest tragedy and have urged the public not to speculate on social media.
