Two workmen have died in a freak accident while unloading glass panels from a lorry in the car park of Hitchin Town Football Club in Hertfordshire. The incident occurred at approximately 2pm on Saturday 6 September.
A third man sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Hertfordshire Police confirmed that the two men died at the scene, and their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
A spokesperson for Hitchin Town FC expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families, stating that the police have taken control of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.
Hitchin is a market town around 25 miles north of central London. Hitchin Town FC, known as 'the Canaries', traces its roots back to 1865 and participated in the first FA Cup in 1871.
