Lanarkshire Builder Named TIME Most Sustainable Company 2026

Barratt and David Wilson Homes West Scotland, headquartered in North Lanarkshire, has been named one of TIME Magazine's World's 500 Most Sustainable Companies for 2026, marking the third consecutive year the house builder has received this honour.

The recognition underscores the company's industry-leading commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural environment, as well as building communities that promote healthy and happy living for customers. Barratt Redrow, the parent company, is responsible for local developments including Lennox Gardens in Monklands and Jackton Hall in East Kilbride.

Global Recognition for Sustainability Leadership

This accolade places Barratt Redrow among a select group of companies worldwide recognised for their leadership in sustainability. In total, 62 UK-based companies received the accreditation in 2026, all setting benchmarks on sustainability performance, transparency and innovation.

Andy Curran, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes West Scotland, said: “It’s fantastic to know our work across West Scotland contributes to a national legacy of building not only high-quality homes, but a more sustainable future. This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams to reducing our impact, innovating and creating communities that last.”

“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Being included on this global list is both an honour and a powerful motivation to keep pushing the boundaries of what responsible home-building can achieve.”

Rigorous Selection Methodology

TIME and its research partner, Statista, used a transparent, multi-stage methodology to identify the world’s most sustainable companies. The process began with a pool of over 5,000 of the world’s largest and most influential companies. Following a rigorous four-stage assessment, the final ranking excluded unsustainable industries and considered factors such as external sustainability ratings, corporate reporting practices, and environmental and social performance indicators. This comprehensive approach produced a ranking of 500 companies from over 30 countries.

Commitment to Zero-Carbon Homes

Working with highly-skilled partners, Barratt Redrow is driving change across its organisation and value chain to meet pressing challenges including climate change, diversity and inclusion, and human rights. The business is committed to all homes being zero carbon in regulated energy use from 2030.

On site, the house builder is reducing its operational footprint with a major focus on eliminating and reducing diesel use. This includes trials of hydrotreated vegetable oil as a lower-carbon fuel alternative and trialling hydrogen telehandlers. Additionally, it is improving site energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable electricity, and introducing tools to monitor emissions from construction activities.

Awards and Customer Satisfaction

Barratt Redrow’s determination to be a quality, sustainable builder was recognised in June by the NHBC’s Pride in the Job Quality Awards, with 122 site managers given awards in 2026 – more than any other house builder for the 22nd year running. The house builder also received five stars from customers for the 17th consecutive year.

Barratt Homes West Scotland is currently building in several Lanarkshire areas, including Lennox Gardens in Glenboig, Torrance Park in Holytown, Calder Gardens in Carnbroe, Jackton Hall in East Kilbride, Newton Farm in Cambuslang, Eaglesham View in East Kilbride, and Cornhill Village in Hamilton.
