Calvin Mitchell, 24, of Kirkcaldy, Fife, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping and abusing two women over a four-year period. He was convicted of 14 offences, including six rape charges, and jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh on Friday (August 28).
Judge describes 'horrific ordeal'
Judge Thomas Welsh KC said Mitchell subjected the women to a "horrific ordeal" and that they suffered deep psychological trauma. He added: "The harm you have done is incalculable."
Mitchell was 16 when he targeted his first victim, beginning to rape her in Fife in 2018. The court heard he threatened her with violence, would not allow her to have male friends, and shouted at her. He also showed her a video on a mobile phone that recorded him having sex with another female.
Second victim isolated and assaulted
His second victim was isolated from friends and family after he started abusing her in the same year. Mitchell locked her inside a property, punched her, and grabbed her by the neck during an ordeal between 2018 and 2022. He repeatedly raped her and would sometimes throttle her during sex to the point where she lost consciousness.
Mitchell was placed on the sex offenders register and is subject to non-harassment orders banning him from contacting the women.
