The Perlight Black Grid solar panel offers a market-leading 26% efficiency rating and a 30-year warranty, making it a strong contender for UK homeowners seeking long-term performance. With a power output of 500W per panel, it delivers more energy per square metre than many competitors, according to a recent review.
Manufactured by Chinese firm Perlight, founded in 2006, the panel is slightly longer than standard at 1.9m. It can withstand forces of 5,400 pascals on the front and 2,400 pascals on the back, equating to 550kg per square metre, offering durability against UK weather.
While Perlight is not a Tier-1 manufacturer according to BloombergNEF, the company ships to over 100 countries and complies with international standards. The panel retains nearly 87% of its output after 30 years, though its degradation rate is slightly lower than some top-tier models.
One downside is that Perlight provides less public information about itself compared to rivals, but it passes all necessary regulatory hurdles. The longer warranty provides peace of mind for those financing systems or planning to stay in their homes for decades.
Installation costs remain high due to labour, scaffolding, and system integration, so homeowners should consider total system cost rather than just panel price. Solar panel prices have fallen by about 90% since 2000, but installation costs have risen due to inflation.
