Ayrshire farmer and social media personality Cammy Wilson, widely known as The Sheep Game, has joined forces with electricity network operator SP Energy Networks to promote electrical safety on farms. The campaign aims to educate farmers, contractors and landowners about the risks posed by overhead power lines and underground cables.
Risks from farm machinery
With millions of views across TikTok and Instagram, Cammy uses his platform to highlight potential electrical hazards. The campaign stresses that tractors, harvesters, excavators and other heavy equipment can easily come into contact with live electrical equipment, with potentially deadly consequences.
In 2025, more than 1,000 safety incidents were reported on farms and fields within the SP Energy Networks area, including a fatal incident where a vehicle-mounted crane struck an 11kV overhead line.
Simple checks can save lives
Cammy, who runs a farm in Stewarton, said: “We see overhead power lines running across our fields every day, but most of the time people don’t even think about them. That’s the problem. It only takes one moment of not looking up to change everything – and with farm machinery getting bigger, it’s now easier than ever to get closer to overhead power lines than you realise.
“That’s why knowing the warning signs and your height clearance is essential. One of the simplest things you can do is know the height of your machinery and the height of any overhead lines on your farm. It’s an easy step to take and one that could even save your life.”
