He told the BBC that lining the bottom of your food caddy with newspaper can stop scraps from sticking and turning slimy. 'If you leave waste for a couple of days, it sticks to the bottom. Then you're the one having to scoop it out,' he said.
No need to bag recyclables
When it comes to recycling bins, Ashley advises against putting plastic items in plastic bags before recycling. 'Don't bother putting plastic in a plastic bag and then putting it in your bin - waste of time!' he noted. Soft plastics can damage recycling plant equipment and cause unnecessary landfill waste.

To avoid extra water use when rinsing recyclables, consider using collected rainwater or leftover dishwater.
