Tonnes of Rubbish Dumped at Empty Bridgend Business Park
Rubbish Dumped at Empty Bridgend Business Park

Huge piles of rubbish have been dumped at the site of a £10million business park that has lain empty for years. Shocking images taken of the road which leads to nowhere at the unused business park between the M4 and the A48 near Bridgend show the "catastrophe" which has been left behind in recent days.

There are piles of general waste and rubbish, broken furniture, rubble, construction materials, garden waste and even a caravan blighting the site at Brocastle Business Park.

Resident Describes 'Zombie Apocalypse' Scene

A local resident who lives near the unused development which was completed in 2021 using £10m of Welsh Government funding said the scene at the site was like something out of a "zombie apocalypse". The man, who asked not to be named, said everything has been "left completely trashed".

As well as the piles of waste and rubbish, he said all of the streetlights along the unused road have been smashed, with shards of glass scattered on the floor beneath them.

Site Vacated After Months of Occupation

The Brocastle Business Park was built to give an economic boost to the area, with the hope that thousands of jobs would be created. The site is still managed by the Welsh Government, but has remained vacant since it was completed five years ago.

The local resident said the mounds of rubbish were left behind after a group of people who had been living at the site in recent months vacated the land over the weekend. They said at some points, there looked to be between 30 and 50 caravans parked at Brocastle. There were regularly around 20 caravans there, they added.

The resident said it seemed as though those who had been living there had been doing garden waste removals and building work, and had dumped all the waste where they were living.

Welsh Government Responds

The Welsh Government said the Brocastle Business Park land has recently been subject to an "unauthorised occupation". "Steps to resecure and remove the waste from the site are underway," a spokesperson added.

"Everything they've left is trashed," the local said. "It's in such disarray. We walked over there this morning and just saw the catastrophe over there and couldn't believe it was so bad."

A statement from the Welsh Government said fly-tipping is a crime and is never justified under any circumstances. "We continue to target those who chose to break the law and pollute our environment," it said.
