Major Environmental Incident in Oxfordshire
A 39-year-old man from Guildford has been arrested in connection with a significant case of illegal waste dumping in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. The arrest was made by the Environment Agency (EA), which is working alongside the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit as part of an investigation codenamed Operation Nation.
Scale and Location of the Tipping
The illegally dumped waste forms a substantial mound measuring approximately 150 metres long and 10 metres wide. It is situated on a floodplain perilously close to the River Cherwell, raising immediate and serious concerns about potential water pollution and ecological damage. The Environment Agency has declared this a critical incident due to the severity of the threat.

In response to the incident, the EA is taking urgent action to mitigate the environmental risk. This includes installing additional barriers and deploying a temporary boom in the water to prevent pollutants from entering the river.
