Mouldy windows can be a persistent problem, often caused by untreated condensation. However, cleaning enthusiasts have discovered a cheap and effective solution: vinegar, which costs just 35p at Tesco.
According to the NHS, damp and mould in the home can lead to respiratory issues, infections, allergies, and asthma. Therefore, it's important to tackle mould as soon as it appears.
On Reddit, one user asked for advice on cleaning black mould from bedroom window sills. Many respondents recommended vinegar, along with hydrogen peroxide or baking soda. They also advised wearing gloves, goggles, and a mask to protect against spores.
Another tip shared was the German technique of 'Stosslüften' or 'shock ventilation'. This involves opening several windows for a few minutes to create a strong draft, exchanging humid indoor air with drier outdoor air, which can help reduce condensation and prevent mould growth.
Regular wiping of window sills, especially during winter, was also suggested to keep mould at bay.
