A tragic incident at Dillon Falls on the Deschutes River in Oregon has left one person dead and two missing after a group of six tourists were swept over the 15-foot waterfall on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called at around 2:57 pm local time. Three people were rescued and taken to hospital, but one person died at the scene. Search efforts were paused overnight due to darkness and resumed on Sunday morning, with drones and boats deployed to locate the missing individuals.
The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a multi-agency search and rescue operation is underway. The names of the deceased and missing have not yet been released. Dillon Falls is known for its churning rapids and step-like drop, popular with kayakers and boaters in summer.
This incident follows another recent tragedy at a Scottish beauty spot, where a 63-year-old woman died after a fall at Campsie Glen in East Dunbartonshire.
