UK to Bake in 29C Heat This Weekend: 31 Counties Above 26C

The Met Office has predicted that the UK will experience temperatures of 29C or higher this weekend, with many areas seeing the mercury top 26C. Forecasters indicate that the hot weather is set to return and persist into next week and beyond.

Weekend Weather Forecast

The UK is poised to bask in more sunshine this weekend, as the wet and chilly weather of recent days gives way to scorching temperatures. According to Met Office maps, Britons could face temperatures as high as 29C on Saturday and Sunday, with more than 30 UK counties expected to reach at least 26C.

Before the Heat Arrives

However, Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gundersen cautioned that the UK must endure a few more wet and chilly days of unsettled weather before the weekend payoff. He stated: "Temperatures across the UK will remain below average for most of this week and it'll often feel rather chilly, but in the sunny spells between showers, the strength of the June sunshine will provide a short-term boost, making conditions feel pleasant in sheltered areas."

Improvement from Saturday

Conditions are forecast to improve significantly from Saturday. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: "From this weekend, the UK forecast will have a distinctly warmer and drier component with a prolonged spell of above-average temperatures, with values in some locations quite likely to reach 27 to 29C, with the potential for higher values than this."

Extended Warm Spell

This hot spell is expected to last well into the following week, according to Met Office forecasters.

Water Safety Warning

With the return of hot weather, Britons are being urged to exercise caution around water this weekend and beyond. The UK witnessed a horrifying death toll of 19 children and adults killed in water-related incidents during one week in the record-breaking heatwave from May 24 to 31.

Yesterday, the Mirror launched the 'Save Lives for Sam' campaign to stop the "catastrophic" deaths of 33 children who drown in England every year—"the equivalent of a classroom of children lost." Bereaved families, Olympic legends, and safety organisations have united to call on the Government to take five key steps to save young lives across the country.
