Typhoon Noul made landfall early on Sunday in southern China, bringing heavy rain and gale-force winds across Guangdong province. Authorities said heavy to torrential rain would continue until Tuesday.
Strongest storm of 2026
The rapidly developing storm is the strongest to hit China so far in 2026, according to state media. It has forced the relocation of more than 715,000 people in Guangdong province, authorities said on Sunday.
Widespread disruption
Typhoon Noul has also led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights in China and Hong Kong, adding to the significant impact on travel and daily life in the region. The storm has swept away cars and toppled trees, as seen in video footage from the affected areas.
