Shower grout and silicone sealant mould can be a persistent problem, but a cleaning expert advises against using bleach. Instead, two common household items can make the mould disappear in just one hour.
Why Bleach Is Not Recommended
Bleach might seem like the obvious choice for tackling mould, but it carries serious health risks. TikToker and author Anna Louisa at Home warns that chlorine bleach does not kill mould spores, meaning the mould will eventually return. Additionally, using bleach on mould can create a highly toxic gas.
The Safer Alternative
Anna recommends a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil. To prepare the solution, combine one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with one teaspoon of tea tree essential oil in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture generously to the affected areas until they are thoroughly soaked. Then, cover the area with tissue and spray again until the tissue is completely saturated.
Allow the solution to soak for at least one hour. After that, remove the tissue and wipe the area clean. The mould should be gone without the need for harsh chemicals.
Storage and Safety Tips
If you plan to store the solution, use a dark bottle because hydrogen peroxide is sensitive to light and can decompose. Always wear gloves when handling mould and wash your hands thoroughly after the treatment.
This method offers an effective and safer way to keep your bathroom mould-free without the dangers associated with bleach.
