Heavy rain is forecast for parts of Scotland on Thursday as July threatens to end with a washout, according to the Met Office. Temperatures are also expected to drop.
Cooler Conditions and Heavy Showers
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said that for those not fans of heat, overall temperatures will come down into a slightly cooler day. She noted there might be odd showers in the south but still light, with most showers across the north where they could be heavy.
Met Office forecast maps show heavy showers impacting 29 counties on Thursday, all in Scotland or Northern Ireland. The Scottish counties listed include Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll, Ayrshire, Banffshire, Buteshire, Caithness, Clackmannanshire, Cromartyshire, Dunbartonshire, Fife, Inverness-shire, Kincardineshire, Kinross-shire, Kirkcudbrightshire, Lanarkshire, Midlothian, Moray, Nairnshire, Peeblesshire, Perthshire, Renfrewshire, Ross-shire, Stirlingshire, Sutherland, and West Lothian. In Northern Ireland, Londonderry, Tyrone, and Fermanagh are included.
Thundery Showers Possible
BBC Weather’s forecast suggests some showers over Scotland could turn thundery on Thursday. It states that northern areas will have showers, heavy and thundery across the north of Scotland, while further south a band of cloud and local drizzle will push south-eastwards, followed by sunshine. On Friday, sunshine is expected for most in England and Wales, but with scattered showers across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Saturday will have sunny spells again for most, though Scotland may see isolated showers, mainly across the far north. Sunday is forecast to be mostly dry and sunny to start, but cloud will build later with a few spots of light rain possible.
