Russia has launched a massive attack on Ukrainian power plants, further evidence that the White House's effort to negotiate an energy ceasefire between the nations has failed.
Zelensky: Over 15 facilities targeted
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said "more than 15 critical power generation and transmission facilities in various regions of Ukraine were targeted" using around 320 drones and missiles.
He said: "Although our troops manage to shoot down a significant portion of them, the sheer scale and relentless nature of the Russian strikes—particularly those targeting the energy sector—unfortunately have many negative consequences."
Ceasefire claims contradicted
The attacks come after Trump claimed last weekend that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire". Multiple attacks on energy facilities have followed, with Ukraine launching a major attack on a Russian refinery in Ryazan, south east of Moscow, on Thursday.
Trump has demanded that Zelensky stop attacking Russian oil refineries, claiming it is the cause of a global rise in the price of diesel fuel.
