Millions of gym-goers have been warned after research revealed that popular protein powders could be packed with hidden toxic chemicals, heavy metals, and even pesticides. The findings have sparked a major investigation.
Study Reveals Contaminants in Protein Powders
A study by the Clean Label Project screened 134 best-selling US products for 130 types of toxins. Scientists discovered that many powders were contaminated with heavy metals like arsenic and lead, Bisphenol-A (a chemical used to make plastic), and pesticides. In several cases, the hazardous substances were found in large quantities, making the powders highly unsafe for consumption.
Lack of Regulation
Harvard Medical School instructor Dr. Mallika Marshall warned that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) leaves it up to manufacturers to evaluate the safety and labeling of products. This means fitness fans have no idea if what is printed on the tub matches what they are consuming.
Aside from chemical dangers, milk-based powders can trigger severe digestive distress for those with lactose issues, while other brands are quietly loaded with hidden sugar.
Legal Investigation Launched
The findings have prompted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to launch a major legal investigation into supplement manufacturers. Paxton stated: 'Protein is a vital macronutrient for human health, and Texans deserve clean protein powders without having to worry whether the products contain heavy metals or other harmful chemicals. Far too many corporations have snuck harmful ingredients in their products, and I am committed to doing everything I can to help make America healthy again.'
